Requirements: Applicant must be enrolled at an U.S. college or university and submit up to three articles (or series of related articles) which were written within the year prior to the application deadline. Articles written as part of the applicant's regular coursework are not accepted. Selection is based upon the article's excellence and its exhibition of the following characteristics: committment to human rights and the exposure of injustice, concern for truth-telling, interest in topics ignored by mainstream media, investigative zeal, and progressive politics. Applicants are encourage to submit a cover letter. Winning article may be published in The Nation.
