You should always investigate the background of the scholarship. The best shot of success comes from finding out the requirements from the start and making sure you meet them. At the outset try to recognize the potential motivations of the Society of MAES Inc. and their reason for offering the MAES Scholarships. Once that is done, figure out if there is a reasonable chance to receive the scholarship. Once you believe that there is a good chance of actually being one of the winners of the MAES Scholarships, then it is worth it to fill out an application.
One critical aspect of working toward obtaining the scholarship is properly completing the forms.
