You should always thoroughly research the background of the scholarship. Getting the greatest odds of achieving your goal is a result of first understanding the qualifications and then determining if you qualify. At the outset seek to understand the particular aims of the Montserrat College of Art and their reason for offering the Merit Award. Once that is done, make sure you have a reasonable chance to obtain the scholarship. If you think that there is a good chance that you can be awarded the Merit Award, then it is worth it to put forth the effort to apply.

A crucial part of working toward obtaining the scholarship is paying close attention to the application. Occasionally the process can be lengthy and tedious, but it is absolutely critical that you fill out the application correctly and completely. Use caution to insure that you will not lose out on a technicality.

After the required forms have been mailed, it's important to know when the Merit Award makes payment of the money so you'll be aware of whether or not you can rely on the scholarship to assist with the expenses associated with school and its personal usefulness, as there may be restrictions on how you can use the Merit Award. It can be difficult to find ways to cover the expenses associated with school, and obtaining the Merit Award to defray some of the costs can make things much easier. Even if you don't obtain the Merit Award, don't give up, there are other scholarships and you may find success elsewhere.
