Requirements: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen between the ages of 17 and 22, a high school graduate, unmarried, have no legal or moral responsibility to financially support children or a family, and have a genuine desire to serve in the Coast Guard. Selection is based upon annual nationwide competition. Recipient must complete five years of service in the Coast Guard immediately upon graduation.
