The Youth Incentive Award is a Contest sponsored by Coleopterists Society.

Amount of Contest: Average: $150, plus one-year subscription to The Coleopterists Bulletin
Application Deadline: 15-Nov
Requirements: Applicant must submit proposal on project or activiity promoting the study of beetles. Proposals are evaluated on creativity, educational benefit to the applicant, scientific merit, feasibility, and budgetary planning. Applicant is encouraged to find an adult advisor to provide guidance in proposal development, but proposal must be written by applicant.

You should always spend time looking into the background of the contest. The best shot of achieving your goal will follow from first understanding the qualifications and knowing if you fulfill them. Before you even begin, be aware of the reason for involvement of the Coleopterists Society and their reason for offering the Youth Incentive Award. If you are qualified, you should determine if there is the possibility to receive the contest. If you think that there is a good chance of actually being a recipient of the Youth Incentive Award, then it is useful to use your time.

One critical detail of working toward obtaining the contest is properly completing the forms. Applications can sometimes be time consuming and tiresome, but take the time to make sure that you fill out the application precisely. Use caution to insure that you will not be bumped because of some minor point.

After the required forms have been mailed, it's important to know when the Youth Incentive Award confers the award and distributes the money in order to know whether or not you will be able to count on the contest to provide additional support for the expenses associated with school and what assistance it will provide, you might have to follow certain conditions on what expenses are covered by the Youth Incentive Award.
