A good place to start is to search for the background of the scholarship. The best shot of success comes from finding out the requirements from the start and making sure you meet them. Prior to starting, figure out the potential motivations of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and their goals for the ACS Scholars. After making sure you satisfy the prerequisites, you should determine if there is a reasonable chance of actually getting the scholarship. If you think that there is a good chance of actually being one of the winners of the ACS Scholars, then it is useful to use your time.

An important detail of working toward obtaining the scholarship is paying close attention to the application. Occasionally the process can be drawn-out and laborious, but it is absolutely critical that you fill out the application accurately. Avoid mistakes that might make you be bumped as the result of something that could have been avoided.

After filing, it's important to know when the ACS Scholars distributes the money so you'll be aware of whether or not you can rely on the scholarship to assist with any bills associated with your education and how it will help you out, since there might be constraints on how you can use the ACS Scholars. Recently it has become more burdensome to take care of the increasing costs of education, and making use of the ACS Scholars as a supplement to your own resources can make things much easier. If you don't end up getting the ACS Scholars, don't give up, there will be alternative scholarships and your persistence may be rewarded.
