You should always carefully examine the latest information on the fellowship. A maximized likelihood of obtaining money comes from initially researching the prerequisites and making sure you meet them. A good first step is to figure out the reason for involvement of the Japan Foundation and their reason for offering the Doctoral Fellowship. Once that is done, figure out if you have any likelihood of actually getting the fellowship. Upon determining that you have a decent shot of going on to be one of the winners of the Doctoral Fellowship, then it is useful to put forth the effort to apply.

A vital part in the process of trying for the fellowship is paying close attention to the application. Some forms are lengthy and laborious, but take the time to make sure that your work was done accurately and without omission. You don't want to be bumped on a technicality.

After filing, figure out the timeframe regarding when the Doctoral Fellowship chooses a winner and actually dispenses the money in order to stay informed about if you will be able to count on the fellowship to provide additional support for your financial needs and how it will help you out, as there may be restrictions in what can be paid with the Doctoral Fellowship. You might find it challenging to be able to manage the increasing costs of education, and being awarded the Doctoral Fellowship to help with your financial aid is often invaluable. If you don't end up getting the Doctoral Fellowship, don't give up, you can find different fellowships that you can hopefully get.
