It is important to carefully examine available information on the scholarship. The best shot of success can be attained by initially researching the prerequisites and making sure you meet them. A good first step is to try to recognize the reason for involvement of the Office of Student Financial Assistance and what they hope to achieve with the Distinguished Scholar Award. After making sure you satisfy the prerequisites, make sure you have the possibility of being awarded the scholarship. After figuring out that there is a good chance of actually being a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award, then it is useful to fill out an application.

A vital detail of applying for the scholarship is paying close attention to the application. Applications can sometimes be lengthy and tiresome, but you shouldn't underestimate how important it is that the forms are filled out precisely and without omission. You don't want to miss out because of some minor point.

Once the application is sent off, it's important to know when the Distinguished Scholar Award chooses a winner and distributes any funds so that you can know if it is possible to rely on the scholarship to help meet your financial needs and how it will help you out, as there may be restrictions on what expenses are covered by the Distinguished Scholar Award. It can be difficult to find ways to handle all of your financial needs, and getting the Distinguished Scholar Award as a supplement to your own resources can make things much easier. If you are not fortunate to receive the Distinguished Scholar Award, keep at it, there will be alternative scholarships that you can hopefully get.
